Meryal Water Park in Lusail, Qatar, perfectly balances tradition with cutting-edge entertainment. As part of its award-winning collection of 69 attractions, the park sought to introduce an iconic, next-level experience to solidify its status as a global destination for water-based thrills. Enter the Meryal SlideWheel—the region’s first rotating water slide and Ferris wheel hybrid, combining adrenaline-pumping excitement with innovative design. Partnering with WhiteWater West Industries, Kelight was privileged with creating a dynamic lighting experience that would elevate the SlideWheel, ensuring it dazzles visitors both day and night.
The Challenge
The Meryal SlideWheel presented several unique challenges. Its massive rotating structure required a lighting design that could adapt to constant movement while maintaining visibility, durability, and safety under Qatar’s extreme weather conditions. The lighting needed to enhance the kinetic energy of the ride without overpowering its intricate design, creating an engaging visual experience for riders and onlookers alike. Additionally, ensuring the lighting technology could withstand the intense desert heat while remaining energy-efficient was crucial.
The Solution
The lighting perfectly complemented the SlideWheel's motion and structure, producing light shows that evolve with the ride's pace and intensity. To withstand the harsh climate, we chose high-durability, energy-efficient fixtures that would perform flawlessly under Qatar’s demanding conditions. The lighting system was carefully integrated to be visually impactful while blending seamlessly into the ride’s architecture, ensuring that it enhanced the overall experience without drawing attention away from the design. The SlideWheel was the park’s first water slide to have its lighting completed, quickly becoming an iconic feature even during the construction phase.
The Result
The Meryal SlideWheel is now one of the iconic water slides at Meryal Water Park, drawing attention with its dynamic lighting that pulses and shifts in sync with the ride’s motion. Day or night, it transforms into a living spectacle, turning heads and elevating the entire park experience. This lighting design doesn’t just enhance the visual appeal—it solidifies Meryal’s status as a leader in innovative water park entertainment, proving how intentional lighting can amplify both storytelling and guest engagement.
